Technical requirements

Broadband

The starz service has been developed to exploit the schools' broadband network. While many of the tools will work adequately on slower connections, we can offer no guarantee of that.

Web browser

To ensure access to all parts of the service we currently suggest that schools should use Internet Explorer version 5.5 or above. Other browsers will support most the tools.

To access many of the tools, Flash player, must be installed. Adobe Flash Player is obtainable free here

Please note that the tools have only been tested on machines running Windows 2000 and XP. Use on other platforms is at the user's own risk.

Other software

To view some of the audio and video material we would recommend that you should have Windows Media Player, Quicktime Player and RealPlayer installed.

Some features of the DigitalBrain system require the use of Java. Download the Java Runtime software from here.

Hardware

Some tools require use of a microphone and/or webcam to access full functionality. Schools may also wish to consider whether headphones might be useful when individual pupils are exploring sound and video resources. For information on prices please contact sales@ict.ccceducation.net
