Internet Safety Support

Technical

The following technical solutions are in place to minimise risks of inappropriate activity.

1. By default, we set up all pupil accounts as private. Their contents can only be viewed by someone logging in with the individual pupil's user details or by a teacher

2. All pupil accounts are included in the 'safemail' system. This restricts pupils to receiving and sending email messages (text, audio or video) just to others in their own school. For external communication we recommend all messages being routed in or out through a separate class account that is accessed by the teacher and not included in the safemail system.

3. The webmail system produces a copy of any pupil message, and is sent to a designated email account for monitoring purposes.

4. All email messages are checked for viruses and bad language. There is also an anti-spam filter available.

Human

No technical solution can completely remove the risk of inappropriate use. Pupils, school staff and parents all have a role to play.

From September, we will be making available internet safety advice specifically aimed at the issues involved in using the Starz site and tools, including model paragraphs for letters to parents, user agreements etc. This will be in addition to the general advice on internet safety already issued by the county.
